Former Orlando police chief Val Demings keynotes at Winter Park Alumni’s community service awards program

7 awards given for chapter, community service

WINTER PARK – Former Orlando police chief and Orange County mayoral candidate Val Demings inspired an audience of 65 last Thursday evening with the story of her road to leadership in the public and law enforcement realms.  Most importantly, she emphasized how voluntary community service activities by the Orlando Police Department during her tenure as its chief contributed to a dramatic decline in the city’s violent crime.

Demings’ message was timely and relevant to an audience invited to see five members of the Winter Park Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and two local citizens receive awards for outstanding community service and professional achievements.  The event was held March 27 at the Winter Park Farmers Market.
